fertilitydiaries ttc fertility pregnancy forum

The doctor asked us all the general questions and looked at our previous results.
She looked at my hormone tests and said they did them wrong and I had to have them done whilst on my period which luckily I was yesterday so she did them again.
I also have to go back 7 days before my next period for more blood tests (even though I'm pretty certain I am ovulating as per my bbt charts & fertility friend)
Then she looked at Hubbys swimmer results which is what I'm concerned about.
She said that the number of swimmers is fine but the motility is a low. She mentioned two percentages needing to add up to 50% and said they didn't. She then said that the motility can change and that his results did not in anyway mean we wouldn't be able to conceive with his swimmers but she was going to send him to re-do the test at Hammersmith hospital in London which has a very good fertility clinic.
Can anyone reassure me that 1) low motility doesn't mean we'll never get pregnant and 2) If the 2nd test still comes back as low motility can they give hubby something to take to get them back to normal?
Our next appointment is not until 18th September but she said wait a few weeks until we think they'd have our test results back and call for cancelations.
I don't think I can wait until september!!

At home fertility tests
The best time to get pregnant is when you ovulate or 2 to 3 days prior to it. So, if you have been trying to get pregnant, familiarize yourself with your ovulation cycle or look for other methods and test kits to determine if it is your most fertile time of the month. It is important to document your ovulation everyday, as the window of opportunity to conceive is very small. So, if you can detect your ovulation symptoms or indicate whether or not you’re fertile, odds are that you will be able to increase your chances of getting pregnant and have a baby in no time.
One of the best ways to determine ovulation is by testing the consistency of your cervical mucus everyday. When you ovulate, your cervical mucus increases in volume and becomes clear and slippery like raw, egg whites. You will also experience pain around your lower right abdomen. So, keep an eye out if you have these symptoms. Check the consistency of your mucus by stretching it with your thumb and forefinger. If your fingers stretch over 1-2 inches with the mucus still intact, then you have begun to ovulate.
Your saliva also changes when you ovulate. Some predictor kits test your saliva and look for patterns under a microscope to determine ovulation. These kits cost around 30 to 150 dollars. However, some kits do not use microscopic readings but use an electronic sensor, which is placed in your mouth. These kits costs from 30 to 200 dollars.
Another way to detect ovulation is by using a predictor kit to measure your LH levels in your urine. LH also known as the Luteinizing Hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland and when you ovulate, there is an increase in the LH levels. Ovulation predictor kits use strips to determine your LH levels. They cost around 20 to 50 dollars.
You could also use the basal body thermometer (BBT) to determine whether or not you are fertile. The Basal Body Thermometer (BBT)checks your body temperature and a rise in temperature would mean that you’ve ovulated.
Recently, sperm tests to measure semen sample and sperm concentration have also become available. The test measures if the semen sample has sperm above the minimum fertility standard and also helps determine infertility. However, it cannot test for the shape of the sperm or its motility.

Hi there,
My husband and I are trying to concieve as well, we have been seeing a fertility specialist since the begining of the year. When my husband took his sperm test his motility was low, extremely low. My dr said it could be just the enviroment that he works in, that it can change almost daily. He hasnt been able to take a second test yet, he travels for his work, but the dr assured me he was not worried about it being an issue. Since then I have been on fertility drugs.....
I wanted to tell you I freaked out when his test came back like that, I did a lot of research and also talked to my dr about it, there are many things they can do if its just the motility....yes you can still get pregnant and yes they can give him different vitamins to take...
I hope this helps, I'm here if you have any questions..
